It's that time again! We are hereby announcing the 8th Heidelberg Author Award 2025, this year for poetry. All persons living, studying or working in Heidelberg, Mannheim, the Rhein-Neckar-Kreis, Bremen, Nottingham (UK) and Dunedin (NZ) are welcome to submit their poems for the competition.

Further information:
All people of any age from Heidelberg, Mannheim, the Rhein-Neckar-Kreis, Bremen, Nottingham (UK) and Dunedin (NZ) are eligible to enter.
Poetry in English and German is eligible for the competition.
The theme is freely selectable.
The texts must not yet have been published.
The submission confirms that the author owns the publication rights to the texts.
The authors retain the rights to their own poems. Previous prize winners cannot participate again.
The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) does not preclude from participation, but the extent of its use must be transparently declared.
The submission should consist of three poems summarised in a single PDF file. Max. 1,500 characters per poem including spaces.
Font: Arial, font size 12.
Each page in the file (or in the printed document) must have a codeword.
The file name may only consist of this codeword without any additions.Your own name must not appear in the file or in the file name.
The six-digit codeword consists of:
The first two letters of your favorite poet's first name
+ the first two letters of your favourite food
+ the day of the birthday of one of your parents.
Example: HIBR12 (Hilde Domin + broccoli + 12 May 1961)
The name of the author of the file must not reveal the identity of the person submitting it.
There are no fees for participation (with the exception of postage if you submit by post).
The closing date for entries is 1 May 2025, end of day.
Legal recourse is excluded.
By submitting your poetry, you agree that your texts and your personal details (name and short bio) may be published as part of the competition (e. g. in an anthology or online). Your personal data will only be used for the purposes of the competition and will not be passed on to any third party.

The following information must be included in the letter:
Codeword (on each sheet)
Author's name (if different, also the passport name)
Indication of whether and, if so, to what extent AI was used
Postal address
Date of birth
Telephone number
E-Mail address (if available)
Short bio
Important:
When submitting by letter, the cover letter must be placed in a separate, small envelope, which in turn must be placed in the large envelope containing the text.
The large and small envelopes must be labelled with the codeword (and only the codeword!).
The separate copies of the poems must be labelled with the codeword on each page.
Your name must not appear on the separate copies of the poems.
One copy of the texts is sufficient.
